I am stunned beyond words because I am sitting here writing this blog, “How going to the gym changed my life?” Seriously, there was a time when going to the gym was never on my radar. I used to go brisk walking, but that was it.

I always felt walking was the only way to get me in shape. Eventually, it did, but building strong muscles was never on the list because of the same old notion: “If you start working out, you will bulk up.”

But for once, I let that thought not consume me, and I headed to the gym to never look back. The gym has truly and inevitably changed my life for good, and I still have more goals to achieve. But for now, let me share some baby insights that have dawned on me –

How Going to the Gym Changed My Life

Like most people, I had simple goals – to become fitter and a better version of myself. The gym has definitely shaped me, but the credit goes to my personal trainer, who is a gold mine. And yes, how can I forget my gym – Laa Fitness at Talegaon Dabhade. Anyways, without any further ado, let’s get to the crux of the story.

1. Discipline is the new norm

There was a time when I wasn’t consistent. Sometimes I would go for a walk; other times, I’d choose my sofa for thinking about my so-called “fitness goals.” But once I started seeing changes in my body, discipline became the key. Now, I can’t miss a single session, and that discipline is the best part of going to the gym.

2. Including “healthy” in my diet

One great thing that happened with the gym is I started looking for healthy alternatives in my food. There was a time when I would buy packaged foods, chips, and snacks, but now I feel like making all of them at home – of course with a “healthy” twist.

3. Bye bye junk food

The best part of going to the gym is that junk food is out of my life. Most importantly, even if I manage to eat some, my digestion goes out the window. My body flushes it out. And I have such a fear (in a good way) of junk food, so no matter how hungry I am, I avoid ordering and prefer cooking at home.

4. No more pain but only muscle gain

I still remember avoiding climbing stairs. Despite living on the first floor, I always chose the elevator. The reason was that my knees would hurt when I climbed stairs. I would get that chilling pain, making it unbearable for me. However, with regular leg workouts, I’ve tackled this challenge.

I am glad I can climb stairs without pain, and that’s a win-win for me.

5. Challenging myself is a habit

When I started my workouts, I was sceptical about lifting heavy. Instead, I stuck to small weights because I was scared of getting injured. But as I progressed, and thanks to my personal trainer, I gained confidence. I started lifting heavy. A girl who started doing shrugs with 10 kgs can now do 22.5 kgs on each side.

6. Started believing in my strength

As I started challenging myself, I also started believing in myself. Without a trainer, I would stick to light weights. However, with time, the tables turned. Without a trainer, I was managing to lift 10 kgs on each side, and for me, that is an achievement. People who are pros in this may find these weights petty.

But believe me, for me it’s a great deal. Going from someone who ran away from dumbbells to believing in herself and doing well is an achievement. Besides, I didn’t stop at strength training. I have also started running and recently completed a 6K run. Haa, I love this fitness life.

7. Fell in love with my body

Having a so-called “slim trim” body was my motto, and I am sure every girl craves it. I was so skeptical about certain clothing that I avoided it altogether. I have thick arms, and I still do, so wearing sleeveless tops was never on the list.

But as I started seeing changes in my body and gaining confidence, I realized there’s no harm in showing off those flabs. I must accept their presence and try my best to work on them. Until I get in shape, there’s no point in hiding. Eventually, I fell in love with my body. I am working on those flabs for sure, but I am also loving them.

8. Gained mental strength

Ahhhh, this is the most important factor I want to highlight – mental strength. Going to the gym gives me that calm feeling and clarity of thought. Once in the gym, I forget everything and focus only on my workout. I was lacking that kind of focus for a while, and the gym gave it to me.

9. Fell in love with myself all over again

YES, I AM IN LOVE WITH MYSELF. I was once that girl who would hide her flaws under her oversized clothes. I was shy to step out, but now I am a changed person – a person who loves her body and herself. I am so happy I chose myself, and I am completely in “self-love” mode. Once you step into this mode, I will tell you the happiness that flows in, worth having.

Over to you…

So, these were my thoughts about how going to the gym changed my life. But some of you might have something different to share. But the crux of the story is – no one ever regrets going to the gym. I am sure everyone has a positive thing to share!
